A lease for a room in a house is an agreement between two parties, the Lessor (landlord) and the Lessee (tenant), that allows for the tenant to live in a designated room in the landlord’s house for an agreed period of time. The Lessee pays rent each month or year depending on the agreement, and has all the rights and responsibilities as any tenant would, such as being entitled to quiet enjoyment and keeping the premises in safe condition. The lease should clearly specify the room to be leased, the rental rate, rental due date, parking arrangements, term length, and any other rules regarding use of common areas. It should also outline the consequences if either party breaches their obligations. By signing the lease both parties agree to abide by its terms.
