Reasonable Accommodation

Reasonable Accommodation Definition

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations to employees with disabilities. A reasonable accommodation is any change to a job, the work environment, or the way things are usually done that enables an individual with a disability to apply for a job, perform the essential functions of a job, or enjoy equal access to the benefits and privileges of employment.

Reasonable accommodations may be necessary to enable individuals with disabilities to:

-Apply for a job

-Perform the essential functions of a job

-Have equal access to the benefits and privileges of employment (such as training or advancement opportunities)

-Enjoy equal access to facilities used by employees (such as restrooms, cafeterias, or break rooms)

-Comply with employer policies and procedures related to employment (such as dress codes or other workplace rules).
