Process Reliability Definition
Process reliability is the probability that a process will perform its intended function without failure for a specified time under stated conditions.
A process can be considered reliable if it produces consistent results within tolerable limits over time. To achieve reliability, a process must be designed, operated, and maintained to prevent or minimize the occurrence of failures.
There are three main factors that affect process reliability: design, operation, and maintenance.
Design: The design of a process must take into account the potential for failure and include provisions for mitigating the consequences of failure. The goal is to produce a design that is as fail-safe as possible.
Operations: The way a process is operated can impact its reliability. Poorly trained operators or those who do not follow procedures can introduce errors that lead to failures. Maintenance: Regular maintenance is essential to keeping a process running reliably. Over time, parts will wear out or become damaged and need to be replaced or repaired. If these activities are not carried out, the likelihood of failures increases.
